Detecting Water, Gas, and Underground Leaks
Plumbing leaks anywhere in the home can be a huge inconvenience. Even more so if you cannot find the leak. We at New Age Plumbing, are very familiar with detecting leaks.
Bathroom Leaks
The most common type of bathroom leak is splash leaks. This simply refers to water that escaped the shower curtain or glass door. This may seem like a small issue, however the damage is easy to see. Therefore, if you start to notice loose tiles around the tub, peeling paint, wood stains, and even worse, mold, you could have splash leaks. A homeowner can fix this problem with caulk or by replacing faulty curtains or doors.
Gas Leaks
The first indication of a gas leak is an odor. The natural gas used in homes does not have a naturally occurring odor. But rather, it is added to the gas so that a leak will quickly be detected. If you suspect a leak, ventilate the area well. You can test the culprit system if you have access to the pipes. First mix dish soap and water in a container. Secondly, pressurize the system by turning on the gas. Then carefully wet the suspected parts with the solution. If bubbles form, the leak has been found. However, the safest and easiest solution is to call an expert. Not only will they detect the leak, they have the knowledge and tools to fix it.
Underground Water Leaks
If you step outside and see unusual wet spots or water pooling on your property, this could be a clear sign of an underground plumbing leak. This would be obvious indication of a big leak, however, a smaller leak won’t be so notable. Locating a patch of ground that is greener than the rest, or even covered in mold or moss, is a sign of a slower leak. Leaks under a house may cause the foundation to shift or an unusual spike in the water bill. These issues can be quite alarming, but nothing that an certified technician can’t locate and fix.
